C-ville Duck Rescuers!
BEST ADVENTURE OF SUMMER THUS FAR:
I was rock climbing in Ogden Canyon with Kayleb, Drake, Austin, Ben, Kadie, and Abby, when out of nowhere came 11 waddling ducks with no mother. We were completely struck with how adorable they were, but the situation quickly became dire. The ducks were scared by all of the teenagers roaming around, so they began to run to the highway and up on the cliffs. I wish I could have recorded the next 15 minutes.
We emptied out our ice chest and started catching all the ducks. Kayleb literally caught a duck with one hand that had fallen off the cliff. I saved one right as it was about to go into the road. We had our moments of glory and happiness as we saved these ducks from destruction. Kadie accidentally crushed one... but it ended up being okay. Thank goodness.
The upside of the story is that we saved them, the downside is that if their mom is still alive, she won't take them back now. The second upside is that we got to play with them ALL afternoon and snuggle all day. You have no idea how attached we got to them. We named them (that was the first sign of attachment) and you can actually tell them apart! Jane is the smallest, dainty one. Rondo is the leader, he can jump the highest. The Drizz is the fat one. Aaaah I just love these sweet little baby ducks! And their fate is sweet too. The majority of them are going to a farm in Idaho with a pond and a nice family. I think Kayleb and his family are going to keep a few too....again, a nice family.
Man, I just can't get over these ducks! I feel like a proud mother.
