though the truth may vary...

I have made a big decision.
I dabbled in this and that and came close every once in a while.
But I finally decided what my favorite music genre is.
Icelandic Indie.
If that sounds weird to you, don't judge just yet. They sing in English!
It is like American Indie Folk bands...but ten times better.
It is the music that I want to listen to to calm me down during drama, before I go to sleep, to play on the ukulele, to sing, to ride by bike to.... it just fits.
Right now I love Of Monsters and Men.
(I love them because they are amazing.... AND I am reading Of Mice and Men right now!)
This is them:
I also wish I could be her. Make music with a bunch of well-scarved men with facial hair?
I think I'll have to skip going to BYU so that I can experience some facial hair. Eh?
If you had to listen to one song, listen to Little Talks.

2. In A Sweater Poorly Knit

By Me Without You. This band is actually Christian, and this song is about Moses!
I love Moses. This is hilariously embarrassing, but I found this song in Swenson's classroom. He plays the greatest music, like The Decemberists, and this was one of the great finds from his classroom. He is a great teacher! Hehe.

Where is my nerd herd? I'm having a really hard time without my nerd herd. Going a day, let alone a week, without really talking to your nerd herd is really hard. Nerd herd.

1. Holocene

I'm posting my top 3 favorite songs! If you're not excited.....um....well, just be excited.
Jackson has told me to listen to Bon Iver for ever, and I found this song on itunes for 69 cents! (Yes! You can buy it too!) It has become the song that I listen to every night before bed and whenever I need to calm down, which can be often. It is such an amazing song.
Once I knew I was not magnificent...

Swens Moment, Space Camp

If any of you have had Swenson, this is one of his "Longboarding Moments."
I really wanted to find a good Chris Sharma (one of the greatest rock climbers ev) video to show you, but due to me not finding one yet, here is this. I kinda love it. I love this song, it is called Slow Motion.
Also, I really wish I was a mountain biker.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
OH MY GOSH. I almost forgot to tell you.
I went to Space Camp! For a friend's birthday party, we got to drive an hour and reenact Star Trek. If you know Star Trek, you know what was there. We were on the Odyssey. It was complete with a voice activated Computer, phasers, Klingons, and a mission to complete! I WAS CAPTAIN! You have no idea, my eyes actually started tearing up at one point. It was amazing. I acted just like Piccard. Or Kirk. Take your pick.
Also, I love Wyatt. He was the guy who worked there (I am going to work there when I'm older) and was with us the whole time. To sum up his coolness: he goes to conventions all the time, is going to actually play the part of Chekov in a remake of the Original Series, which will play online, and is using the ORIGINAL uniforms. Oh my gosh. I got an autograph and took a legit picture with him. We posed as engineers. Anyways, my husband better be just like him. I don't know if I can handle being with someone who is not a complete nerd.
For the Price of a Cup of Tea: for real!
I'm off to the mountains this weekend for some good old camping. It's about time. I really need to get away from everything. (Not that there is anything to get away from, but I'm just ready for some fresh mountain air). So I'm leaving you with this great song. I posted its title a few days ago, but I think you really do need to hear the song. Plus whoever made this music video... I like it. I find that it has great charm. It makes me want some tea.
Have a great weekend.
Love of my LIFE.
I'm really behind on blogging, but I have to tell you about the Twilight Concert Series Concert. They had Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros!
Ah, no words can describe.
(Are you not in love with his hair?)
I don't know if you know that my favorite song in the world... the song I would take to a desert island if I could only have one... the song that I really can listen to over and over and always be so happy with it.... well, it's by this band. And they played it. (It's title is Home)
I swore that if I heard them play this song, I would be happy for the rest of my life.
And I think I will be.
Everyone screamed when they announced the song and everyone jumped up and down and sang every lyric. Even a midst the pot smell and beer-drinkers, it was heaven. Truly.
Ellen's First Day as an ADULT.
This is Ellen. She is an adult.
We had a fun party to celebrate her being one.
It's so exciting! We just missed Erin.
We ended the party with the best 3-minute dance party in my teenage life! Well, it made the top 5. We danced to the song above... its fun to dance to, so I encourage you to do so.
Happy Birthday Ellen!
I meant it when I said thanks for the support for Tetris :)
You're the greatest.
pure, completely pure, love
This song has been playing in my head all day. I just thought it needed a reprise.
does he own a shirt???
I found a new best friend. He is a year younger, SO much taller than me, first name is Jackson, and we found out we have the exact same taste in music. He asked what kind of music I like, and expecting him to like 107.9 type music, I was surprised when he was in love with every band I was! We talked forever about Sufjan Stevens, The Shins, Delta Spirit, Fleet Foxes, and such. It was for sure a bonding moment. So we made that day a holiday, February 24. Yay for us.
This week is one of those weeks I should be shut up in a cell to save myself from embarrassment. Its like every move I make, every word that comes out of my mouth, somehow avoids a filter and I do embarrassing things. Like the day this week I slipped on the grass outside after school, attempting to jump to the cement, but then fell... in front of all the buses driving by. Then sometimes I should just keep my mouth shut to avoid any possible failures. But if you can't picture my in a cell... perhaps with a mustache.... you don't have to! Here is one for you!
I think one of the reasons I don't like being a girl is the fact I can't have facial hair. But in the end, I actually am okay with it, cause then I can admire other men's facial hair. My choir teacher thinks i am ridiculous with my obsession with facial hair. But who can resist it?
+ I need to write a talk for church tomorrow. Keeping it down to 2 minutes. Jawesome.
+ I can't believe the weather still insists to be winter. My fondness is decaying.
+ I want to go ice fishing. So maybe I should veto the last comment.
+ Portuguese Irregular Verbs is hilarious.
can't help it, i'm a born lever puller
So this weekend I came down with some nasty strep. It was weird, Erin and I both woke up sick Friday morning. With completely different things, but it was awesome to not be sick alone! We partied it up with out popsicles, ibuprofen, Mary-Kate and Ashley, HSM2, Psych, Star Trek, and then some more ice cream.
Anyways, I went to the doctor this morning and got some drugs. (Thanks goodness!)
But I have to stay quarantined in the house, so tonight I spent my time with the Beatles. Only until I go faithfully back in the living room for Star Trek.
But Yellow Submarine, the movie, is probably the greatest thing ever. I can watch it over and over, because there is so much in it, I catch something different every time.
Ava watched it with me, but she kept saying she didn't want to watch it because she didn't like the blue mean guys. The Blue Meanies aren't very pretty or sweet, I understand where she is coming from =]
This is the Sea of Holes. One of them actually takes a hole and puts it in his pocket. He has a hole in his pocket. But this whole show is psychadelic! Crazy colors and hypnotizing stuff.
I loved me some Beatles tonight. Thanks for the intro, Alexis!
Oh yeah, Alexis and Teresa invited me and Erin to go to Mt. Pleasant this whole weekend, and I was stoked! But then we both woke up sick.... so in honor of them is the reason for watching this movie....
besides love.
is your bed made?
I got accepted into this Utah State Junior High Honor Choir. I got to miss school today, and spent the whole day (8 a.m. until 5:30 p.m.) singing in Salt Lake, expect our wonderfully welcomed hour lunch break. It is actually a really fun thing!
We have five great songs, chosen by Mrs. Whilmore, our conductor. She is a pretty cool lady, and she won't be the death of me. Now this Honor Choir is people from all over the state. There are 8 people from each schools, and well over 300 people total. That is a lot of friends to make, a few cute boys, and a lot of hot bodies. On stage is the biggest pit of sardines I have ever been in.
But singing in a choir like that.... wow. I feel like the MoTAB. The sound is so clear and gorgeous, and it bounces off the walls in that auditorium. The songs seem to have so much more feeling, just because of the sound we can make. I think the rehearsal will pay off.
So after doing that today I am way tired. And then I have to be at the school at 8:00 again. Not complaining, just stating! Anyhow, it makes me love to sing. And being with Swallow outside of school isn't as bad. Today she told me I was hilarious....
Oh man, got a call tonight from my school saying I am failing a class. But jokes on me, cause the call was accidentally sent to EVERYONE in the school, not just the failing 7th graders it was intended for. Nonetheless, it was a great moment. I guess the counselors just didn't know what they were doing. Must have been in shock since our principal and head secretary left today.
Sad day.
Haha, what is a sleep-walking nun?
(A Roman Catholic!)
I like Seminary.
Have a nice weekend.
Didn't I, my dear?
A few weeks ago, I heard a song on the radio. I really liked it. I fell in love with it! So I wanted to find the song, and I had no idea how to find it. For the life of me, I could not remember a word or tune from the song. I would sit and think really hard, trying to remember something about it.
Nothing came!
So I sat at the computer playing solitaire for hours, listening to the radio, trying to find the song.
Nothing came!
But one night, in the middle of the night, I was half awake and remembered the chorus! I was so happy that I fell back asleep. When I woke up in the morning, I couldn't remember ANY of it. How frustrating is that?
I think Erin can testify I was obsessed with finding this song.
So guess what came on the radio yesterday? THE SONG!
It made me more happy than anything else could. I felt like I accomplished something. It was amazing. So here is the song that caused me a lot of agony, but is still my favorite song:
Best yesterday I have had:
-bowling
-ice cream cones
-reading stories to Lindsey
-cramming 5 girls into Kadie's closet for a sleepover
-finding the Obama mask.... then continuing to take many pictures with it.
-ghost adventures....
-and the best friends in the world!
22 December 2010
continued.
Still more Michael Cera love! This is a wonderful song, I listen to it over and over because it is so short. Micheal Cera and Ellen Page from Juno: Put your hands together.
i feel like i learned something.....
I have a major-jones for Micheal Cera. Seriously. I love him! He is my celeb-crush. Even more than Matt Damon. I first saw him in Juno, then just again in Scot Pilgrim vs. The World. Which by the way is my new favorite movie! It is hilarious. Video game references, funny lines, and Micheal Cera is just amazing. He is in a band too! He does everything.
I love his boy voice.
"I feel like I actually learned something!... Too bad I'm dead..."
"Scott earned the power of self-respect!"
"Her name is Knives. She is Chinese."
"Part of the mourning period is dating a high-schooler."
Vegan powers ;)
"I really will leave forever now."
"He's is actually really nice! We are having brunch next week"
always trying to keep it real.
I love this song. So much.
The Day The Music Died....
I have a new found hatred for Rhapsody. I like iTunes and Windows Media Player, but Rhapsody is selfish. It stole the music from off my iPod, then wouldn't let it transfer back on. Selfish.
And the only thing we could do was reset the iPod and watch all the music go
down the drain..... I almost cried. I lost all the music.
It was the day the music died for me. I miss it.
LUCKILY, Kaitlyn had this music backed up, so it is somewhere in her boxes. But until we find it, it will be kinda said without it. My favorite song on there is Such Great Heights, by The Postal Service. I could marry that song.
Miles from where you are....
I used to listen to this song EVERY night before bed. I just found it again, and remembered. So many feelings and memories wrapped up in this. Take an ear.
animagus...
I had a lengthy conversation with a pal about being an animagus. What would I be if I were one? My friend said he would be a dog. I told him I thought he would have been a sloth since he was always lazy. He thought I was genius. To satisy both of his wants, we decided on a sloth-dog, whose Latin name would be Canisloth. It sounded good, but imagining it, it sounds ugly. Anyhow, I still haven't decided on an animal. Any ideas? What would you be?
But to my point. Thinking of Canis Lupis, it reminded me of this song by my FAVORITE band. The Aquabats. Due to animagus talk, it has been stuck in my head all week. This morning, I was late, but had to get on the computer to listen to it one last time. Take a ear to it.
She & Him
By the way, this awesome band named in the title are coming to Salt Lake for a concert! FREE! In Pioneer Park! I am still unsure if my parents will let me attend, but I am hoping and praying.
Talking to my new found Senior Friend, Colton, we were talking about the girl in this band, Zooey Deschanel. She is so amazing! I love her voice. I love her style. Colton is in love with her too :)
So for your video enjoyment and if you happen to have exactly 2:33, check it out
Lets hope.
As our hair grows long.....
I have a friend who, crazy as it sounds, has planned out every haircut she is going to have for the rest of her life. She has proudly told us this plan, and this video reminded me of her.
Watch it.
You will like it.
